Have you ever wondered what different breeds was in your cat? We have a beautiful white girl, and we are thinking she has a bit of Siamese in her, due to some flame point markings. I had the opportunity to try out Basepaws, and I jumped on it! That is, until I realized it involved a mouth swab..haha.
Seriously, though, this is a super easy, non invasive cat DNA testing kit. Now, you do have to do a swab of the inside of the cheek, but if you have a cat that won’t murder you in the process, you’re golden. If you have a cat like my Snowflake, it takes some planning.
The kit itself is super simple, and comes with everything you need. The box that it comes in, is used to mail the sample back, which I like because it allows it to serve a dual purpose and use less waste! The kit has your collection swab, and a bag to seal it in for mailing it back.
Now, like I said, if your kitty is cooperative, you can be done with the process in about a minute. Unless you are Snowflake. Then it requires being wrapped in a towel, held tightly by your human, while shooting daggers at said human. Then you wriggle out of the towel, and try to murder your human, while your human hurries and wraps you back up. At this point, you have managed to inflict several scratches on the human’s arms. This makes you very happy..bwahahaha. Eventually your human gets you wrapped tightly, and attempts to stick the swab in your cheek. They think they are sooo slick. Oh, let me chew on it for them..haha. Fine I will let them do it…geesh!
Yes, that is how it seemed when we got Snowflake’s swab..lol. Cats are generally not cooperative, but it’s definitely worth the end result!
