4 Affordable Steps to Give Your Home a Face Lift
By Aurora McCausland

How often do you notice something in your home that you’d like to change, but then get discouraged when you think about how expensive it would be to completely remodel that aspect of your home? Often, our train of thought begins with something simple like “I’d love to paint the kitchen cabinets”, but it quickly evolves into an entire kitchen remodel in your imagination. While this is something you may want to work towards, in most cases, it’s just not feasible or affordable to try and do that much home remodeling at once. It’s easy to get discouraged in this situation, and then simply not do anything. If you’re itching to give your home a bit of a facelift, but you don’t have the budget to makeover the house of your dreams this weekend, here are a few affordable tips you can do today!

A fresh coat of paint goes a long way
Over time, your walls start to look a little dingy. Fingerprints, children’s creativity (sharpies, anyone?), and normal wear and tear will make your walls look older and not as nice as they once did. A fresh coat of paint can do wonders to makeover a room. Add a fresh coat of the same paint, or maybe grab some paint samples and consider painting the room a different color. Often, a different color can be just what a room needs to look cleaner and more put together. Before you get started, evaluate the color palette of the room you’re working on. Make sure you pick a color to paint your walls that works with you already have, and naturally compliments the room.
Exterior home accents

The outside of your home is just as important as the inside. It may not be as appreciated because you don’t live in your garage or on the lawn, but when you’re trying to makeover your home, these are important aspects that you shouldn’t neglect. Swap out your garage door for one that stands out, reseed your lawn, or patch the cracks in your driveway. Adding flowers along your pathway, trimming back shrubs, and planting a new tree will all go long ways to making your home more beautiful.

Add a little greenery

Have you ever noticed that the living rooms that catch your eye the most when you’re scrolling through Pinterest, all have beautiful plants and greenery throughout the room? Not only are houseplants beautiful, but it also improves the air quality within your home and is proven to naturally boost your mood. So not only is adding a bit of green beautiful and functional, but it’s good for your health, too! Get creative. Maybe create a living wall, or a living wall within a picture frame. Add succulents to your coffee table, a potted fig tree by your entryway, or ivy up a trellis outside your backdoor.

Deep Clean

If your home is dusty and dirty, it isn’t going to look at nice. We often get caught up in the day to day, and forget to do the deep cleaning tasks that don’t need to be done every single day. Things like washing your windows, cleaning your baseboards, and deep cleaning your carpet are all things that will make your home look brand new. Take a wet cleaning towel, and wipe down all the surfaces of your home. You’ll be surprised at all of the places that are hoarding immense amounts of dust, and you’ll be even more surprised at how much nicer your home looks once you’ve wiped down all visible surfaces. Things like bookshelves, tvs, and desks should be wiped down regularly. Vacuum your couches, wipe down the kitchen chairs, and mop all of your hard floors. A few minutes of cleaning will make your home look more put together than you’d believe.
