I never realized that Pen pals were still a thing until this year! Pen pals were a thing when I was in elementary school, back in the 80’s, but I thought it went out with those times. I was wrong. So very wrong!

I found that pen pals are still going strong, and I was thrilled! Everything is so technologically advance nowadays, that it was very refreshing to see that there were still some things done the old fashioned way! A lot of people find pen pals in groups on social media. For instance, I have joined 2 groups on Facebook that I found several pen pals in. It’s fairly easy to find pen pals with your interests and likes. Here is what I post up in the group:

Hello! My name is Majenica. I am 41 years old, and married with two teenage boys. I am from Indiana, and I am a crazy cat lady, with 7 cats. Yes, that’s definitely crazy! I love to read, crochet, cook, and so much more! If you would be interested in exchanging letters, please send me a message šŸ™‚

See? It’s really simple! Once I post this, that lets others know that I am looking for a pen pal. They then message me if they are interested. I absolutely love that I get to “meet” new people and I can have friends all over the world! I currently have some pen pals from here in the United States, but also from England and Scotland!

Paper and Envelopes

One of my favorite things about sending letters to pen pals, is decorating the envelopes and using fun stationary! I make my own stationary, using Microsoft Publisher and some clip art. I print it after I design it, and use it to write my letters. Would you like a free stationary sheet? Just click here and get yours!

For envelopes, I like to use washi tape to decorate with. What’s washi tape, you ask? It’s a super fun masking tape that has designs on it!

Pens

I am also super particular about what pens I will use. I like a good quality pen, that will write smoothly. Pilot Pens sent me a variety of pens to use and try out. I was super excited when they got here, and couldn’t wait to use them!

How cool are these pens???? I will admit, the fountain pens were the first to be opened..haha. These are really awesome! I had some fountain pens from another brand before, but they didn’t write like a fountain pen. They were basically a regular pen in fountain pen costume. These Plumix fountain pens are the real deal! As you can see from the second picture below, I’m still a work in progress when it comes to being able to do fun stuff with them. I will get there! I love how easy they are to put together and start writing. It was so fun using an actual fountain pen, and it’s going to take my pen pal writing to a whole new level! This kit comes with some guides to help you learn to write with them, thank goodness, or I would be completely lost.

The Bottle 2 Pen, or B2P, pens are great! They write so wonderfully, and I love that they are made from plastic bottles. That is a fantastic way to create a great pen, while being environmentally friendly at the same time. The colors are super vibrant, and the ink flow is good. I love that the tip just flows so smoothly across my paper. They are comfortable to hold and write with. I actually had to hide them from my husband and son, who wanted to hijack them for work pens! No way!

The pop’lol gel pens are super fun! They are great for writing, but they are also fun to use in coloring books. The ink doesn’t bleed like some pens do, so it can be used to write double sided letters. There are a ton of color choices, and I really like that I am getting more than 1 shade per color!

Plumix Hand Lettering Kit, $27.49

The design of the Plumix calligraphy pen was inspired by the ā€œplumeā€ or feather that was used to create early fountain and calligraphy pens. Combining these elegant lines with a transparent demonstrator barrel in vibrant colors, and paired with matching inks, the PilotĀ Ensō Plumix calligraphy pen sets are a unique way to add calligraphic flair and striking color to your writing. The finely crafted italic steel nib in 3 sizes enables you to create a range of thin side-strokes and wide down-strokes, letting you emulate italic scripts like Gothic and uncial. The Plumix’s transparent demonstrator body lets you admire the pen’s inner workings and see how much ink is left.

Bottle 2 Pen Colors, $6.97

With the B2P, from Bottle 2 Pen Gel Roller, Pilot has launched the world’s first pen made from recycled bottles! In recent years, plastic water bottles have been under close scrutiny for their environmentally unfriendly characteristics. Almost every hour, close to 250,000 plastic bottles enter landfills and comprise close to 50 percent of all recyclable waste. Mae from 89 percent post-consumer recycled plastic bottles, the Pilot B2P Colors features vibrant gel ink and a fine 0.7mm point for smooth, effortless writing.

Designed to mimic a bottle of water, the body of the B2P Colors Pen is translucent to match the ink color with unique striations like those commonly found on water bottles. Retractable and refillable, the B2P uses the same ink refill as the Pilot G2, America’s number one selling gel pen. Available in a variety of bold colors and barrels, the writing quality of the B2P meets the same high performance standards found in all of Pilot Pen’s products. Pilot Pens. Simply write.
